What is Mounjaro?

Wegovy is a prescription weekly injectable medication (containing the active substance semaglutide) used for long-term weight management. ZOTO prescribes Wegovy for adults with obesity, subject to eligibility. It's used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

How does it work?

Mounjaro is a unique dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics two natural gut hormones:

GIP (Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide): This hormone helps regulate energy balance and may directly affect fat storage.

GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1): This hormone reduces appetite, increases feelings of fullness, and slows down gastric emptying. By activating both receptors, Mounjaro helps to reduce food intake, decrease hunger, and ultimately leads to weight loss.

What are the common side effects?

The most common side effects of Mounjaro are generally gastrointestinal and tend to be mild to moderate, often subsiding as your body adjusts to the medication (especially during dose escalation). They include:
Nausea and Vomiting
Diarrhoea/ Constipation
Indigestion/Heartburn
Feeling bloated
Stomach pain
Headache
Fatigue
Dizziness
